Winning UCLA Engineering Entry Design Course Rubber Band Car Competition

This Fall quarter, I took Mechanical Engineering 94 – the entry level design class for UCLA mechanical engineers. We learned about 3D modeling and drafting, as well as important design considerations for manufacturing. The course culminated in the creation and presentation of a 3D printed car powered only by rubber bands. The goal of the contest was to make your car travel the furthest on a level surface, and I lead a team of three engineers to create a three wheeled design that blew the competition out of the water. Our car traveled over 50 feet, while the next closest car made it only 26 feet. Here’s a link to a gif of the assembly of our car, and here’s a link to a short video of the car itself.
